Carya Community Kitchen

The Cause

Carya Community Kitchen is a gathering space that provides community connection through food, culture and education. This commercial kitchen community space will provide opportunities for all ages to receive education on topics such as food insecurity, nutrition and meal planning as well as provide the opportunities for special events and unique experiences. The space will also be used by other organizations and groups promoting and supporting food related issues in our city. We will also be able to provide an affordable rental kitchen for small business or social enterprise activities.

The programs offered by the kitchen will include: Dad & Me Make Dinner, Food Nutrition, Youth Meal Making & Education, Professional Chef Led Education Classes, Mommy & Me in the Kitchen, Seasonal Eating & Nutrition, Cooking for One and various other offerings/classes.

The space will also host various events such as pop up dinners, group cooking and volunteer cooking opportunities for the community.

Who Will it Benefit?

Situated in the East Village and open to all Calgarians, Carya’s vision for the community space is to create a multi-generational hub that meets the needs of both current residents and the evolving needs of a distinct urban neighborhood. As per community input and engagement, Carya knows there is a strong need and desire in the East Village to create a space for people to come together in ways that promote wellness, provide assistance and reduce social isolation. It is Carya’s intention to develop the community kitchen as a space for youth, families, adults and older adults to gather and participate in food programs, education and community events. Carya will provide the community with an innovative welcoming space to gather and build knowledge & connections.
