Food First Foundation – Tastemakers Cooking Program
Food First would like to give a huge thank you to the Field Law Community Fund Program, which supported our school cooking program, Tastemakers, across the NWT last school year.
Education is our primary focus as an organization. “Give a person a fish and you feed them for a day, teach a person to fish and you feed them for a lifetime” is our core philosophy. The Tastemakers cooking program complements the existing NWT curriculum and teaches students practical kitchen skills.
Feedback from schools who ran the program during the 2017/2018 school year was very positive. Here are a few of the comments we received:
- “The students were highly engaged in the process from start to finish.” – Helen Kalvak School, Ulukhaktok
- “The students loved the opportunity to cook and the skills that went with it.” – Alexis Arrowmaker School, Wekweeti
- “Students embraced this program. They really enjoyed learning how to prepare the food and especially eating the food they prepared.” – St. Joseph School, Yellowknife
- “The students really enjoyed making meals that they shared with their families. It was a great way to engage the community.” – Chief Paul Niditchie School, Tsiigehtchic
Thank you to Field Law for helping make our Tastemakers program a success!
