That’s a Wrap
The Cause
MEOW Foundation celebrates its 20th anniversary this year and as a special project, we are planning to add a vehicle to our organization, lovingly referred to as the “cat-mobile”. 10 years ago, even 5 years ago this would have been a “nice to have” but now after 20 years and over 14,136 cats rescued and matched with loving homes, we find that this is a necessity. Up until two weeks ago, our request would have been for assistance in purchasing the vehicle. Then, through our wonderful support network – a generous donor came forward with a donation of a 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan. Low mileage, and excellent condition. You might think, well, that’s a wrap! And you would be correct. What we need to do now, is wrap the van with MEOW branding and prepare it for service in animal transport. Specifically cats; hence our name “cat-mobile”. MEOW Foundation rescues over 1,000 cats and kittens each year. Many of these rescues need medical attention, most are scared, injured or ill. MEOW does not have a veterinary clinic on-site. We rely on our partner veterinary clinics throughout Calgary who provide us with rescue-rate services. These are invaluable partnerships, but they are located in various parts of the city, and depending on their availability, we need to get our cats to their facilities.
Who Will it Benefit?
Ultimately the cats and their future adopters will benefit from the use of the cat-mobile. Over our 20-year history, we have relied on staff and volunteers for transporting MEOW cats. However, we travel a minimum of 12,000 km every year and the demand continues to grow.
In addition to relieving staff and volunteers of the burden of using their personal vehicles for MEOW business, MEOW will be able to participate in local festivals and community events. These events provide awareness of MEOW’s three core programs (Rescue and Adoption; Trap, Neuter & Return (TNR); and SNAP) that are available to Calgarians throughout the city. Our Spay Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP) provides financial assistance for families facing financial need and has been in high demand during this COVID-19 pandemic.
