Dolly Parton Imagination Library (N.W.T.)
The Cause
The Dolly Parton Imagination Library program (N.W.T.) was started by the Rotary E-Club of Canada One in March 2014, with the launch in Tuktoyaktuk, N.W.T.
The purpose of the program is to improve literacy and therefore the future educational opportunities for northern children.
Literacy rates are very low in the remote Beaufort Sea area.
The children, from birth to age 5, are registered by their parents, and are sent (by Canada Post) an age appropriate book every month by the Dollywood Foundation, St. Catherines, Ontario.
Who Will it Benefit?
It will benefit the Northwestern N.W.T., as due to the successful start-up (over 87 of 105 f eligible children enrolled) in Tuktoyaktuk, our E-Club has expanded the program to the whole Beaufort Sea area.
The areas that we\'d like to service are now Tuktoyaktuk, Aklavik, Tsiigehtchic, Ft. McPherson, Palatuk, Sachs Harbour, Ulukhaktuk, Ft. Resolution, and Inuvik.
Our 5 year estimate for this program is a total cost of approx. $114, 000 CDN.
