Symphony in the Community Program
The Cause
We want to take the music to the community! Our principal strings perform as a string quartet; we'd like to take that quartet into schools, senior's facilities, and community halls, bringing the joy of live music.
Depending on travel, each concert costs from $600-$1000 to put on. The Orchestra typically performs in the ~150km radius of Calgary, but a smaller group could travel as far south as the US Border, East to Medicine Hat, and West to Banff.
Depending on funding levels, we can optionally supplement the core group of strings with opera singers, a pianist, or a woodwind soloist.
Who Will it Benefit?
A school concert can impact 400+ students per concert.
A concert in a care centre impacts fewer people, but is of special importance to those in long term and palliative care.
A community concert has broad appeal, and can impact 200-300 patrons in community centres or churches suitable for live music.
