Dialysis North a Stanton Territorial Hospital Foundation Initiative
The Cause
Dialysis is a lifesaving and life-changing process.
There are some types of care Northerners need to travel for. Dialysis should not be one of them. Dialysis keeps people alive by cleaning their blood in place of their failed kidneys. The treatment takes 4 - 6 hours every second day for the rest of their life. The Stanton Territorial Hospital currently has 5 Dialysis Machines which operate 6 days a week, for 12 hours a day and are at maximum capacity.
Who Will it Benefit?
The Stanton Territorial Hospital is located in Yellowknife and provides healthcare serves close to 250 patients per day with patients coming from 33 different communities in the Northwest Territories. The need for dialysis is growing among Northerners. In 2013, the hospital treated 110 patients requiring dialysis plus in just two years that number rose to 500 and as our population ages, this number will continue increase too.
