Senior Digital Literacy
The Cause
Digital literacy is essential for communication, leisure, and work. However, there are important gaps between digital technology and digital literacy. Older generations are in need to acquire skills to explore the digital world in a safe and independent manner. Our project will address these by offering:
One-hour stand-alone digital literacy workshops for seniors. The program will foster seniors’ digital independence by providing them with basic computer skills and online safety education.
Programs will run in the Spring 2022 and Fall 2022 taught by professional instructors. A project coordinator will oversee the program and provide administrative support. Volunteers will be recruited and trained to support the instructors. Open-Sourced resources will be produced to support the programs and the larger community.
Our project will improve digital literacy knowledge and skills in senior members of the Northern Hills community.
Who Will it Benefit?
There are many beneficiaries of the project
150 seniors will benefit directly from the workshops provided increasing their confidence, independence, and safety online.
300++ seniors and their families will have access to digital resources (instructions, info sheets, etc) created and posted on the NHCA’s website for anyone to access. These resources could be accessed by anyone with an internet connection.
2 new jobs for the duration of the project.
20+ volunteers will receive training in working with seniors and digital literacy.
Other community members will benefit from the investment in technology purchased for this program as the laptop can continue to be used for additional future programming
