Edmonton Musical Theatre’s 40th Anniversary Celebration Showcase
The Cause
Founded in 1977 by Dr. Dasha Goody, Edmonton Musical Theatre (EMT) is a performance-training organization unique to Western Canada. EMT is unique in that it is an independent, non-profit society without affiliation with any educational institution or with any amateur theatre. EMT is dedicated solely to educating its students to the highest degree of professionalism in the area of musical theatre arts. In 2017 EMT celebrates its 40th season. An extravagant musical showcase held at the ATB Financial Arts Barns in June 2017 will mark this successful milestone. The showcase will journey through EMT\'s rich history, from the sweet beginnings where Dasha Goody and a young music director, Tommy Banks, held the artistic reins to our present day accomplishments. Past accomplishments of our dedicated organization have included receiving a number of awards from the Edmonton Downtown Business Association and the Mayor\'s Award for developing a program for young adults with Downs Syndrome. All of the special notes of achievements will be weaved through a kaleidoscope of musical theatre songs spanning four decades. EMT revue shows have always featured a theme and these themes will be brought together for one delightful evening. The theme of composers will be included with some works from Cole Porter, Stephen Sondheim, Richard Rodgers and Andrew Lloyd Webber. EMT has had its finger on the pulse of Broadway trends and this theme will include musical excerpts from Broadway shows that have been inspired from movies, pop culture and literary novels. Our past performers will come together and celebrate our \"musical family\" as there have been generations pass through our performing doors in our many years. Over the last 40 years fashion and trends have changed but EMT has held steadfast in providing high quality musical theatre experiences.
Who Will it Benefit?
Over EMT\'s 40 years we have touched the lives of 4,000 students and performers and over 30,000 audience members. Our training programs, shows and workshops reach out to people aged 5 to 75. So many people have been influenced and inspired by their time at EMT. We are an inclusive organization where our belief is that all members of society and cultures can express themselves through the joy of sharing their passion of music. While not all of our students pursue theatre careers, many have entered into the professional fields of stage, television and radio. Regardless of whether or not our students pursue active careers in entertainment, their experience at EMT empowers them with a greater appreciation of the arts, a sense of achievement and personal growth, and a new level of confidence.Edmonton Musical Theatre provides an atmosphere for the aspiring performer wishing to pursue a career in the Arts, as well as a place for the amateur musical theatre lover wanting to follow their heart’s passion!
