Villains Dome Project
The Cause
The Villains Dome project involves constructing an accessible and centrally located indoor soccer dome in the parking lot of the existing Calgary Villains FC facility located at 830 59 Avenue SE. The construction of the Villains Dome will be integrated with the existing Villains facility and provide full sized artificial turf indoor soccer field, with a variety of dimensions including an 11 v 11 field, two 9 v 9 fields, and four 7 v 7 fields. In addition to providing a high-quality venue for soccer, the dome will provide space for other sports and training to take place that require indoor recreational space, furthering Villains FC's focus on community and creating opportunities to collaborate and share.
Who Will it Benefit?
The Villains Dome project will benefit the entire youth and adult sports community, not limited to, but focusing on youth and adult soccer clubs and associations across Calgary and surrounding areas. The Villains Dome project will have a positive impact on many portions of the Calgary community including youth soccer players ages 4-18, particularly those playing in the Calgary Minor Soccer Association and the Alberta Youth Soccer League, a diverse mix of other participants both adult and senior, participating in adult soccer leagues, lacrosse, flag football, and ultimate frisbee. The Villains dome will have the capacity to house multi-faceted health care providers including physiotherapists and strength and conditioning coaches to create a holistic recreation location. Other groups in the community, such as non-profit community organizations, schools and companies will also benefit from having this central, accessible, and vibrant year round space available to them. This land use re-designation will play a key part in adding to the much needed supply of indoor recreational facilities in the Calgary area, and will create opportunity and vibrancy for surrounding area businesses and services.
