Pathways to Success: Empowering Youth!
The Cause
Being born in Tanzania, East Africa, and coming to Canada as a youth of twelve years old, I understand the difficult journey of the newcomer youth coming to Canada today. As a young youth growing up in Montreal, Quebec it was difficult to adjust and was subjected to a lot of bullying and racism. This in turn made me very vulnerable to the negative influence out there. I was recruited early into gangs because of the promises that the gangs made “We will protect you, no one will bully you”, etc. When I was growing up there were not many resources/ champions for youth out there.
Choose Well and Succeed's mission is to bring at-risk youth the motivation and tools needed to be successful in their journey toward adulthood and lead a positive life away from the negative effects of drugs, gangs, etc. Empowering youth with education and knowledge helps them make choices that bring success. We are unique in how we approach the youth with a strength-based approach and wrap-around model.
Choose Well and Succeed is delighted to present this proposal for your consideration. We are thrilled at the prospect of partnering with you to tackle the impact of mental health on issues such as drugs, gangs, bullying, youth law, transition to high school, and trades. Our proposal, titled "Pathways to Success: Empowering Youth!" aims to unlock the potential of young individuals by delivering presentations at various schools in Calgary, Alberta. We firmly believe that education is the key to empowering youth, providing them with academic, emotional, and social support and life skills to nurture their competence and confidence.
Recognizing the numerous mental health challenges youth face, we strongly believe that now is the opportune moment to address the impact of drugs, gangs, bullying, youth law, transition to high school, trades, etc. on their mental well-being. Through our public presentations, we aim to prevent these issues from arising. At the same time, our approach serves as Preventative Maintenance, Increasing knowledge of career options and post-secondary education opportunities.
We have already forged strong collaborative partnerships with several school administrators from the Calgary Board of Education and Calgary Young Offenders Centre, Calgary Catholic School District. These administrators have graciously welcomed us into their schools to deliver our presentations. However, the only obstacle hindering our effective engagement with these students is the lack of fun
Who Will it Benefit?
The youth in the schools will benefit directly as will their parents from their children's success with positive choices in their new country of Canada.
