The Cause
Shiloh is a year-round Christian organization serving children and youth ages 7-17 living in high-risk and vulnerable situations in Edmonton and area. We work exclusively with those from low-income families, group homes and foster care.
We run a summer camp in July and August northeast of Edmonton that offers our children and youth a week-long, relational experience away from the city. To ensure their experience and growth does not end there, we also offer a Connections Program during the school year, which includes one-on-one mentoring and drop-in programs. Without Shiloh, and our valued partner organizations, many of our children and youth may never receive the hope, encouragement, acceptance, mentoring and unconditional love they need.
Our idea is to provide two 5 week STEM programming sessions for a total of 24 children. Each program session will host 12 children ages 7-12. One session will run through October and November with the second session running February and March of 2025. We will partner with A&D Tutoring and they will teach and coordinate each session. Learning will include the following:
1. Coding
2. Robotics
3. Game Design
4. General exposure to STEM disciplines
The program will offer benefits such as:
1. Problem-solving, creative, and social skills. Not only are kids learning to build, code, and design games, but they’re learning skills applicable to other areas of learning.
2. Fosters Collaboration in a social environment with other children and instructors.
3. Opportunity for children to make new friends and form relationships!
Who Will it Benefit?
Those children who will benefit will be those living in high-risk and vulnerable situations in Edmonton and area. Shiloh works exclusively with those from low-income families, group homes and foster care. We understand that this demographic doesn't always have access to learning skills in the STEM field and so we know how important this program can be for this under served population.
