Autism Advocacy in Action Sticker Campaign

The Cause

Our idea is to launch a sticker campaign designed to empower autistic individuals to embrace their unique traits and advocate for their needs without verbal communication. The stickers will feature brief, affirming messages that challenge negative stereotypes and highlight the strengths of autism, such as "The Happy Flappies" or "Hyperfocus Hero." These messages will serve as conversation starters, raise awareness, and foster pride in the autistic identity. Each sticker will include a QR code that directs individuals to Autism Edmonton’s programs and advocacy resources, providing crucial support and community connection. Stickers hold psychological appeal, creating emotional connections, fostering loyalty, and sparking conversations that can elevate awareness efforts. We aim to give the autistic community a voice and a tool for self-advocacy that is engaging, accessible, and non-intrusive.

Who Will it Benefit?

This campaign is designed to benefit autistic individuals across Alberta, particularly those who face challenges with verbal communication or advocating for themselves. It will also benefit their families, educators, and community members who can gain insight into autism by seeing positive, affirming messages that challenge stereotypes. The stickers will act as advocacy tools, empowering autistic individuals to express their needs without needing to verbalize, fostering greater understanding within the general community. By using the QR code, individuals will also be guided towards Autism Edmonton’s resources and support systems. Educators, employers, and other organizations can also use these stickers to show their allyship and support for autism acceptance.
