Online platform that offers individuals with developmental disabilities real-world experiences and skills training

The Cause

Resilient Hearts aims to add an existing online platform to extend our in-person services for individuals with developmental disabilities. This platform will provide real-world experiences to help participants develop essential life skills, such as budgeting, communication, and job readiness, all in a virtual setting. Currently, our services are limited to face-to-face sessions, which restricts access for those unable to attend in person due to geographical limitations or personal circumstances.

By adopting this online tool, participants will gain flexibility and autonomy, allowing them to work on their life skills at their own pace. The platform will offer interactive modules simulating real-life challenges, with guidance and feedback from facilitators. It will be especially valuable for individuals looking to gain independence and become self-sufficient without the constraints of physical attendance.

The funding will enable us to launch this online platform, provide necessary technology to participants in need, and train our staff to manage the transition from in-person to virtual services. This expansion will bridge the service gap for individuals who need support but cannot physically attend our programs, ensuring no one is left behind.

Who Will it Benefit?

This project will directly benefit young adults with developmental disabilities who struggle to access in-person services. Our participants often face barriers such as transportation challenges, geographical isolation, or caregiver availability, limiting their access to programs that teach essential life skills.

By shifting to an online platform, we can offer these individuals a flexible, scalable service that can be accessed from home, regardless of their location or circumstances. The participants will learn crucial skills like money management, time management, job readiness, and social communication—all necessary for achieving independence. The platform will be user-friendly and accessible, ensuring participants with varying levels of digital literacy can easily navigate and engage.

Caregivers and family members will also indirectly benefit, as they will see a reduction in the demands placed on them. The digital format allows participants to work independently, relieving some of the caregiving burden and giving families peace of mind knowing their loved ones are gaining essential skills. We anticipate at least 20 individuals to benefit directly from this program during the first year, with broader positive impacts on their families and communities.
