Westmount Community Garden
The Cause
We have two garden plots at our school where we have worked over the last three years to plant pollinator friendly plants and plants indigenous to Alberta. One of the beds is established and the second one was planted last year. We noticed that a treed area at our school that is exposed to wind and almost full sun was becoming heavily eroded. We planted the second bed in this area to ensure the health of the trees and prevent any further erosion. The funds would be for additional soil and plants to help ensure that this second bed becomes established and healthy. We would also like to work with Blackfoot and Tsuut'ina Elders to prepare signage that shares the Blackfoot and Tsuut'ina names for the indigenous plants in the garden.
Who Will it Benefit?
The students and staff at our school benefit from the educational opportunities that the gardens add to our teaching and learning. Parkdale residents also benefit as our playground is well used by the community outside of school hours.
