Seniors Pet Wellness Clinic at Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society

In March of 2025, The Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society (AARCS) hosted our very first Senior’s Pet Wellness Clinic, and we’re thrilled to share that it was an incredible success!

This client focused on seniors with pets. All 35 appointment slots were filled quickly, and we had a growing list of applicants eager to attend the next clinic. It was heartwarming to meet so many wonderful seniors and their beloved pets, each with a unique bond that showed just how much these animals mean to their people.

Our veterinary team provided free wellness exams, vaccinations, bloodwork, urinalysis, and medications to help keep these cherished pets happy and healthy. But beyond the medical care, this initiative is about keeping pets in the loving homes they already have – preventing unnecessary surrenders by ensuring that seniors can continue to care for their furry companions.

For many seniors, pets are more than just animals: they are lifelines of companionship, comfort and joy. Knowing that we can support these special relationships through accessible veterinary care is something we are truly proud of.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make this clinic possible, including Field Law Community Fund Program for their generous contribution.

Following the overwhelming success of our first Senior Wellness Clinic and the high volume of applications received, we hosted a second clinic just a few weeks later to ensure all applicants could be helped. We’re pleased to share that the second clinic in April not only met the remaining demand but also allowed us to serve even more pets and their owners, thanks to improved workflows and team efficiency. In our first clinic, we assisted 35 animals and in the second clinic, we assisted 50 animals –  a 42.8% increase!

We can’t wait to continue this program and help even more families stay together!

A huge thank you to Sam the vet, Lori the vet tech and all the wonderful staff that greeted us today when we brought our three pets in for the seniors pet visit. We very much as seniors appreciate the service that you provided to not only us but to other people in Calgary. I understand that you have a grant and we really appreciate how you were able to assist us today. My pets are exhausted since they got home, but at least I know that they have been well taken care of. I especially loved when Lori who works at the zoo informed me that my six-year-old unhappy cat getting her nails trimmed was a little louder than the big cats at the zoo. She made my day. THANK YOU.”
