The Cause

When Miss Mary decided to pursue mission work educating impoverished children in India, little did she realize she would find her biggest mission field right in her own community. Through reaching out to parents who were desperate, stressed and frustrated with their child’s lack of school success, Miss Mary began tutoring, changing one life at time. As word spread, Miss Mary increased her tutoring and mentoring of children with academic and/or emotional struggles including fear, anxiety and stress. Having taught and consulted for almost 30 years, Miss Mary knows what teaching methods work for kids. A diagnostic assessment is completed for each child to identify their strengths and weaknesses and to ensure children will receive the precise instruction needed to improve. Miss Mary continues her yearly trip to India to train and teach however, the rest of the year she pours her love for children and learning into Medicine Hat kids helping them reach their full potential!

Miss Mary and Mr. Jeff founded Accelerated Potential Academy Inc. in 2015. Since then, the company has grown tremendously and they now include Emotional Intelligence (EQ) strategies, to add to their solid instructional methods to help reach and build even success with at-risk children. Research shows that EQ + IQ = academic and personal success. Our teachers encourage students' to flourish in their strengths while providing targeted instruction using well-researched brain-based instructional methods. Follow-up after each lesson with parents and teachers helps to ensure carry over for the strategies taught. We believe that every child is uniquely gifted to succeed regardless of race, socio-economic status, past failures and family structure.

Accelerated Potential Academy’s vision is to tutor at-risk, impoverished children, identified by schools and community organizations, for the 2017-2018 school year. We have a strong relationship with the families and schools, as they have seen the results of our tutoring on students’ lives, their confidence and academic achievement.

Who Will it Benefit?

The beneficiaries will be a group of impoverished, at-risk children in need of academic tutoring ages 4-14 years. They will have the opportunity to transform their learning and future school success through weekly sessions of one-on-one tutoring. Eight children and youth will be selected with the help of Medicine Hat schools and other community organizations’ for the best, qualified candidates.
