Chestermere Recreation Centre – Playground Replacement
The Cause
The Chestermere Recreation Centre is the primary recreation centre in the City of Chestermere. The facility is governed by a board of directors known as the Chestermere Regional Community Association (CRCA) who is a not for profit organization.
The CRCA is in a unique situation where we do not receive any sustained funding from the adjacent municipalities (The City of Chestermere and Rocky View County). As the largest recreation provider in the area we do our best to provide recreation opportunities for children, youth and adults. It has proven to be a big challenge operating an aging facility and grounds with very limited funding sources. One of the areas we know that requires full replacement is our playground. It is over 20 years old and is past its lifecycle. Each year we do our best to ensure it is a safe area for all, however patches and repairs are at the point where replacement is the only option we have. Its likely that we wont be able to repair the structures for much longer resulting in the closure of the playground completely.
Who Will it Benefit?
The new playground structure we are hoping to purchase will be open to all ages. We are aiming to purchase a set of equipment that is for children from 18 months to 12 years old so that its inclusive for a variety of ages.
The CRCA has over 150,000 unique visitors to our facility per year. The playground is used daily and its absence would be felt by many who are used to popping over with their program participants or parents with their little ones. We have letters of support from the Chestermere Out of School Care, Chestermere Playschool and the Rocky View County Ag Society all of whom use the playground on a regular basis if not daily.
