Dreams Take Flight

The Cause

Our organization raises funds each year to take Children to Disneyland for one magical day. From all the applications we receive we choose the most needy and deserving children to experience a most magical thrilling day, unlike anything they have ever experienced before. We give these children a day to be a "regular" child and experience what they may not otherwise be able to experience. We give them an opportunity to make some magical memories and feel some hope for the future, and create some dreams of their own. In addition we supply them with clothing, all the food and snacks for the day, for many their first plane ride, as well as money to shop for souvenirs to remember their trip. The children are given clothing for the day, a backpack and numerous goodies including books, food, some school supplies etc, that can be used by themselves and their families. Our main focus has been to make this day in Disneyland happen for as many children as possible. In addition we have responded to the needs of terminally ill children in the Edmonton area, one to attend a Blue Jays baseball game in Toronto, and throw out the first pitch, and one who spent the day at the Fantasyland hotel, and at the WEM waterpark with her family. We are a dedicated Children's charity whose objective is to enrich the lives of some very needy and very deserving children in the Edmonton Area and Northern Alberta. Sept. 14, 2016 will be our 24th year and our 24th flight to Disneyland. We ask for your support and would welcome any funding you are able to provide to us. Thank you for your consideration of our request.

Who Will it Benefit?

110 of the most deserving, Physically, mentally and socially disadvantaged children from the Edmonton Area, Northern Alberta and the Territories. We work with a variety of agencies to ensure that the most deserving children are chosen for the flight. We work with agencies such as The Stollery Hospital, the Zebra foundation, Aunts and Uncles at Large, C.N.I.B., Edmonton Autism Society, Crystal Kids, J.D.R.F., Catholic Social Services, Big Brothers & Sisters to name a few, who put in applications on behalf of these children. The criteria for inclusion on the trip is very detailed and adhered to which ensures that those children most in need are chosen for the trip. Over the last 23 years we have taken approximately 3000 children to Disneyland for the day, not surprising is the fact that some of these children from past trips have grown up and become volunteers for Dreams Take Flight. We feel that this one day can make a difference in the lives of these children. Many of whom have one bad day after another, we give them a great day, one which will hopefully have an impact on them and make a change for the better in their lives. Throughout the year our group of 100 volunteers raise funds through the sale of raffle tickets, doing clean up crews at Big Valley Jamboree, selling 50/50 tickets, working at a casino, when available, through silent actions and putting on a golf tournament. These funds would go a long way in providing a day of a lifetime for 10 very well deserving children.
