Hairsine Playground Renewal

The Cause

Harisine Community League plans to give our playground and park a renewal - replacing the existing structure and adding new features to better serve our community members and surrounding schools (both an
elementary school and junior high school). The community hosts many events (community events, soccer events, etc.), and as well the schools use the space for recess and other activities.
A project such as this has great potential for enhancing the physical and social wellbeing of local residents. Redeveloping park amenities and community activation will allow our community to develop and flourish.

Who Will it Benefit?

We estimate over 10,000 people would benefit from this space. Hairsine Park serves the greater community as it is the only playground space for 390 students from Kindergarten to grade 6 at St. Bonaventure Elementary School, and for 600 students in grades 7 to 9 at John D. Bracco Jr.
High School. The League's catchment area has a population of 10,787, representing all generations.
The community park space gets used every day throughout the year. The playground is surrounded by 7 soccer fields, 8 ball diamonds, 2 outdoor hockey rinks, basketball courts, 3 open spaces and a community garden.
