Ice on Whyte in Your Town
The Cause
Since 2003, the Ice on Whyte Festival has taken place in the Old Strathcona area of Edmonton every January. The festival offers 8 days of outdoor winter fun for 40,000 visitors that consist of families, young professionals and new Canadians. For 2016, Ice on Whyte would like to create an outreach program for communities across Northern Alberta called \"Ice on Whyte in Your Town\". This program would deliver the winter festival experience of ice carving lessons for children as well as ice and snow carving mentorship programs for adults to up to 6 communities in Northern Alberta. Each community would pay a nominal fee for this service, however, the festival needs to invest in some equipment as well as hire additional qualified personnel to deliver the program in a safe and professional manner.
Who Will it Benefit?
Children and adults from the communities of Blackfalds, Spruce Grove, Camrose, High Level and two additional communities would be able to enjoy the wonderful winter arts experience of learning to carve ice and snow. The adults from these communities would be able to come to the Ice on Whyte Festival in future years to participate in the ice and snow carving competitions but, most importantly, they would learn how to create ice and snow carving art and deliver these programs in their town and surrounding communities in the future.
