STEP Youth Discovery Program

The Cause

Empowering Minds is passionate about creating strong communities with youth who are willing to break through glass ceilings to make a difference in their lives and the lives of others, and being funded by the Field Law Community Fund Program would help us support our mission.

Our mission is to provide youth and educators with proven and innovative outcomes based leadership programming that develops the confidence, motivation, and resiliency necessary to thrive in today’s world.

We would like your help to continue offering the STEP Youth Discovery Program. This is a reputable youth discovery program where students, aged 14 – 18, receive their own Youth Report that highlights preferences in the ways they think and behave, which helps youth gain a clearer and deeper self-understanding. This program can be delivered virtually or in-person, depending on any restrictions. This program is 3-hours in duration and empowers youth to better understand themselves and others in how they think, communicate, and learn.

This proven program is an exciting way to integrate how students prefer to learn and how teachers can facilitate an educational environment that enhances, deepens, and provides authentic learning experiences for all. Based on Emergenetics theory and using positive strengths-based language, STEP honours students through seven distinct thinking and behaviour attributes. The result is increased tolerance, motivation, engagement, self-awareness, and an ability to collaborate successfully in cognitively diverse teams.

If selected the funds will be used to pay for 5 STEP Youth Discovery Programs at $3,000/program with 30 students in each class for a total of 150 students.

Who Will it Benefit?

Empowering Minds works with High Schools in Calgary including the surrounding area and southern Alberta, to deliver the STEP Youth Discovery Program to students aged 14 –18. Not only will the attending students benefit, the teachers, the principals, administrative staff, school communities, and the community overall will benefit as the attendees gain insight into their preferences in the ways they think and behave, which helps youth gain a clearer and deeper self-understanding. The result of attending this training is increased tolerance, motivation, engagement, self-awareness, and an ability to collaborate successfully in cognitively diverse groups.

By partnering with High Schools and youth-focused organizations, we’ve helped over 5,000 young people, providing them with world-class leadership experiences and instruction.

It is estimated that 30% of the youth we work with are considered at risk. Educators are looking for youth opportunities for leadership training due to the impacts of the pandemic. Many students are struggling and this training will help assist students to move forward and work to make positive changes within their communities.
