Surprise Free Day

The Cause

We operate a community thrift store where any member of the community can purchase high quality second-hand clothing and other household items for cheap prices. We are planning a week long community event. Our idea is to have at least one of the days a "Surprise Free Day", where after the purchase is rung through the till we can say "Your have purchased has been paid by the Field Law Community Fund". Then encourage them to donate what they would have spent to a charity of their choice after they leave the store.
Our last 50% discount day brought us in over $3100 after the discount had been applied. The other days of the week would be either be bag days, where customers purchase bags instead of individual items, or discount days. We could also incorporate and offer the program participants of our Mental Health Support Services (MHSS), Withdrawal Management Services (WMS), transitional housing, men's emergency shelter, and Community & Family Services (CFS) programs a mini-shopping trip.

Who Will it Benefit?

This will benefit all customers on the day. The demographics of the customers of the store is mostly members of low income households. Other charities would also benefit. The program participants of our other programs may also benefit.
