Taste Masters with NSTEP
The Cause
This collaborative program is called: Taste Masters with NSTEP.
Collaborating Agencies: Nutrition Students Teachers Exercising with Parents (NSTEP); Boys & Girls Clubs Big Brothers Big Sisters of Edmonton (BGCBigs): Edmonton Public Library (EPL).
Class/Event Objective(s): Youth clients from the Boys & Girls Clubs Big Brothers Big Sisters of Edmonton- Out School Time Program at St. Alphonsus School as well as members of the public (aged 11-15) will come together in EPL's Kitchen for a low-barrier and accessible cooking class.
Participants will come together to build social connections and learn nutrition and cooking information and skills. This collaborative experience aims to enhance participants' food knowledge and security while fostering a sense of community at the downtown Edmonton Public Library.
Who Will it Benefit?
The benefactors of this program will be the youth who participate and gain new skills in food preparation, as well as their families. This includes the BCGBigs afterschool program students, as well as the youth in the downtown community near the Edmonton Public Library.
The main impact is empowering these youth in the community to take this knowledge back to their family. This builds their employability skills, connections in their community and become better citizens. Taste Masters with NSTEP with no fee will help more accessibility to the parents with diverse cultural backgrounds from low-income families.
