Weaving Roots Foundation

The Cause

Weaving Roots is a grassroots not-for-profit organization created to elevate, empower, collaborate and build trusting and mutually beneficial relationships with Indigenous communities starting with Alberta and eventually branching out to include all of Canada. We endeavor to accomplish our mission through community engagements focused on Indigenous well-being be it emotional, physical, spiritual, environmental and/or infrastructure supports. We want to create opportunities for educating and training Indigenous peoples to gain employment in several fields.

As we build our foundation, we intend to establish multiple initiatives in support of our vision including the creation of a bursary program for Indigenous youth ending their high school careers wishing to enter the workforce and practical “on the job” training and mentoring opportunities.

Our Indigenous Education Bursary Program supports predominantly First Nation, Inuit and Métis students across Alberta and by providing financial assistance to help them in their quest for education that leads to more equitable occupations. These bursaries will be given to students who align with the “4 Pillars” of career path that Weaving Roots Foundation (WRF) has identified as leading to executive class outcomes.

NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) professionals
Environmental Services
Professional Services (ie. Law, accounting)
Apprenticeship and Trades

Our Community Wellness Programs support First Nation, Inuit, and Métis communities across Alberta by providing project oversight (if applicable) and financial assistance to enhance community wellness in the following areas:

Culture
Infrastructure
Sport and Wellness
Community Support

Who Will it Benefit?

Weaving Roots Foundation hopes the benefits of our programing reaches broad corners throughout Alberta and eventually branching out to include all of Canada primarily in the First Nation, Inuit, and Métis communities.

Through our bursary program, not only are we providing bursaries to students for schooling, but we are hoping to be able to assist with whatever barriers exist in their lives that prevent them from going to school, we wish to stay connected with these students as they go through their educational journey celebrating their successes with them along the way. The benefits we see as not only reaching the student receiving the bursary but also the home community of the student as they will be able to bring back to their community their education, skillset and knowledge.

Our community wellness initiative, has a very broad stroke, as we build relationships with indigenous communities our hope is that every member of every community we provide assistance can envision some benefit from our assistance.
