Lakeside Haven – Violence Recovery for Women and Children

Thanks to the generosity of Field Law Community Fund, YWCA Edmonton’s Lakeside Haven was able to provide healing and respite to families living in a second-stage shelter with Wings of Providence. For many of these women and their children, this was the first vacation they have ever taken, able to escape the stressors of starting over while in a safe and welcoming environment at YWCA Camp Yowochas.

Twelve women and 21 children were able to participate in all of the fun activities that camp has to offer. Mothers had the opportunity to participate along with their children, or to take a much needed break while qualified staff looked after their children. Without the support of the Field Law Community Fund, 33 people would not have had the opportunity to bond, to escape the day to day challenges that come with escaping domestic violence, or to simply have fun. On behalf of everyone at YWCA Edmonton, and the women and families we serve, – THANK YOU!

“I earned a peaceful, fun and interesting weekend. My 2 year old some got to meet lots of new people, see the water, campfire, and nature. It’s a very special experience to both of us.”
