Kole Crook Fiddle Association
Thanks to the funding received from the Field Law Community Fund Program we are providing private lessons to five deserving young musicians from Hay River. The students range in age from 7 to 14 years and represent Inuit, Dene and Metis minorities. The students each receive three private lessons from an experienced Kole Crook Fiddle Association instructor per month and attend after school classes once a week.
We were very fortunate to receive funding from Field Law in 2019 and 2020, which helped us send several groups of talented fiddle teachers to schools all throughout the North. However, once COVID-19 emerged we were no longer able to go into schools. We had to go back to the drawing board and decided that if we couldn’t go to the students, we would bring the students to us. We are very fortunate to have a brick and mortar headquarters for our Association in Hay River, a town located in the South Slave Region center and within driving distance to the Dehcho Region. As a result, we focused our activities on Hay River and the surrounding communities.
Thanks, Field Law, for your generous support!
