NWT SPCA Spay and Neuter Assistance Program
In 2023, the NWT SPCA was honoured to receive $3,000 from the Field Law Community Fund Program in support of our Spay and Neuter Assistance Program ( SNAP). Thanks to this generous gift, 20 dogs in the North received the care they needed to live healthier, happier lives- while preventing hundreds of unwanted litters.
On average, one unspayed female dog can produce up to two litters a year, with 6-10 puppies in each. That means Field Law’s support prevented the potential birth of well over 200 puppies in just one year alone, sparing countless animals from lives of hardship and giving our communities a chance to break the cycle of overpopulation.
SNAP is offered to First Nation Communities as well as Yellowknife. Financial reasons are often the reason people do not get their pets fixed. This grant allowed many families the ability to do the right thing for their pets. And their pet is healthier for it.
Field Law’s support didn’t just help get surgeries done; it helped create a ripple effect of compassion and care that will be felt for many years to come. We are deeply grateful for their partnership, making the North a safer, kinder place for all animals. Our in-shelter clinic was possible by the volunteer support of Dr Lindsay Lane and RVT Lisa Neumyer-Coyle from Ontario.
