The Mustard Seed – SEEDschool
We’re so thankful for the generous grant provided by Field Law towards our SEEDschool program. Your gift is helping to support a truly innovative program that gives students the chance to learn about poverty and homelessness and how they can make an impact in the world.
This year, 12 classes will spend a week each at The Mustard Seed taking part in service learning opportunities, interacting with people with lived experiences of poverty and attending workshops with our staff.
So far, classes have heard from special guest speakers including residents of The Mustard Seed’s supported housing, a city councillor and the Indigenous counsellor from our Wellness Centre. They have spent time exploring downtown and visiting charities like Inn from the Cold. All the while, they have been inspired by the art and music of the city and the good work various charities in Calgary are doing.
So far we’ve gotten excellent feedback from the students about what they’ve learned. “I liked that the Mustard Seed is there to help people,” one student said.
